At the Southern end of Gujarat state is thedistrict of Valsad.At the Eastern strip of the district are the Sahyadri Ranges attached to the western Ghats.To the West is the Arabian Seawith it's raging high waves.To the North is the Navsari district and to the South is Dadra Nagar Haveli & Maharashtra state.
It's original name was Nyagrodhpur.In Sanskrit Nyagrodh means vad(Banyan).There were probably large number of Banyan trees so in the begining it was also called 'Vadsal' and as the name suggests Valsad is famous for it's Valsadi Sag.Later on derivated from Vadsal to Valsad.
Gujarat state was established in the year 1960.At that time Valsad was part of Surat district.On 1st June 1964 Surat district was divided and Valsad came into existance
Accordingto an ancient belief this district is been blessed by Maharshi Parshuram of never facing drought,hence also called the 'Green Belt'
